Kiyomi Baird
United States
Kiyomi Baird grew up in California as a third generation Japanese American. After living much of her life in the US and Berlin, she moved to Tokyo, where she confronted with Japanese behavior and aesthetics deeply and there she recognized certain aspects of her personality and art as essentially Asia. She admits that this oscillating cultural duality is being experienced by her very often when she works. After the formal education in the University of California and Berkeley, Kunstakademie Berlin, she attended classes and instruction sessions in California, Berlin, Tokyo and New Jersey. She was part of numerous juried shows in the Northeast, Galleries in San Francisco and Tokyo; including Museums in Tokyo. Her works are part of private collections in USA, Britain, Germany, Switzerland and Japan.

    Commentary

  • I use textures and patterns to create abstract spaces for exploring the mystery of everyday life. Within these spaces forms emerge that evoke the energy and movement of the universal life force. These images reflect our relationships with ourselves, our environment and others. I hope my work can serve as portals or sanctuaries for you to explore your own spiritual path.
