I always seem to return to nature in some way in my painting, even if it is not readily apparent. A city is a landscape: nature re-structured by man. My sense is always that in the end, our lives are always ruled by nature even in the city. No matter where I live I always return home to my Yaqui community in the spring to participate in ceremonies. My relationship with my community and our history continues to be important to me. Yaqui spiritual traditions, songs, myths and the honoring of the natural world contribute equally to my art and life.
